I have been running cardmaking classes for over six years now and in that time, if ever I have asked for suggestions of things people would like to make, creating cards for men always comes up.
I am really pleased that in this year’s Annual Catalogue, there is a good selection of cards and co-ordinating products that have been designed with men in mind. Between pages 24-33, you will find lots of inspiration. These are by no means the only stamp sets and products that you can use when you are creating cards for men, but they are a good starting place for inspiration.
Over the last few weeks, creating cards for men has been a focus in a couple of my Facebook Lives.
Artistry Blooms
The starting point for this first pair of cards wasn’t to be found in that section of the catalogue we mentioned. Rather it was with some selections from the bright and bold Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper.
This first paper featured this blended background that was so evocative of a sunset sky. Using that as a base. I stamped with the High Tide and Sailing Home stamp sets to give this nautical scene. Moonlight highlights were added with the Chalk marker.
To this second background paper I added some stitched stars cut from other papers in the pack, some swirls and a simple greeting
Game On
This second pair of cards uses the “Game On” stamp set and this one is to be found in that masculine section of the catalogue. We enjoyed some heat embossing when we created these cards.
For the first image we wanted a chess board background as well as two sets of chess pieces. The background was created by weaving strips of black and white card. The chess pieces were created by adding white embossing powder to black card and then clear embossing over the top of memento ink on the white card.
For this second card, we created our own background paper by stamping the dice and club. The hand of cards was given a shine to represent plasticised playing cards, by adding clear embossing powder.
Again you can see these cards being created.
Supplies
I hope these cards have given you some inspiration to help solves the dilemma when you are creating cards for men.
I would love to see some of your masculine projects.
