As I sat with the ladies at my Craft and Chat group last Monday, the subject of Dutch Door Cards came up and remembering the measurements and instructions.
I thought it would be a perfect fancy fold technique for a Blog Post and I could combine that with wanting to use some of the stunning Mosaic Moods Speciality Designer Series Paper
This paper has earned the title “speciality” because of the glossy embossed features on the mosaic images to be found on one side of each of these double sided papers. The reverse side is a flat ( but nevertheless beautiful) print. The glossy mosaic hummingbirds and roses are particularly eye-catching and I have used some in this card.
To Create the Card
- Take a piece of A4 Soft Suede cardstock and cut along the short side, at 5″ and then score on the long side at 7″,
- Fold along the score line and burnish and this will give you the back of the card (measuring 5″ x 7″) and the front flap.
- From your remaining strip of soft suede card, cut a strip measuring 2 1/2″ wide by 10 1/8″ long. Score at 2 1/2″ in from each end on the long side. This will give you a centre piece of the strip that is just slightly longer than the back piece. This enables you to stick it across the back card base, at the bottom and wrap the “flaps” around the front.
- You should now have your basic card, with the 2 bottom doors that open and allow the top flap to rest on them, so it will stand on the mantelpiece
Adding the Mats
- The first layer of mats I cut from Crushed Curry Cardstock and these measured: Back Panel- 6 3/4″ x 4 3/4″; Top flap – 4 1/4″ x 4 3/4″; 2 sets of mats for side doors at 2 1/4″ x 2 1/4″
- The DSP mats measured: Back panel at 6 1/2″ x 4 1/2″; Top flap at 4 1/4″ x 4 1/2″: s sets of mats for side doors – 2″ x 2″
Decorating the Front Panel
- Cut a stitched Label from Soft suede card and emboss it with the Tufted 3D embossing folder.
- From the appropriate piece of DSP and using my trusty paper snips, fussy cut 2 roses with some leaves; a bee and a butterfly
- From another piece of DSP, cut 2 hummingbirds. (I have chosen the ones that don’t have shiny embossing on them)
- Arrange your cut out elements (except the butterfly) and stick them in place, using dimensionals to raise the hummingbirds up.
- Stamp the greeting from the “Special Celebrations” set onto Crushed Curry card with soft suede ink. Punch it out with the Timeless Label Punch. Punch a 2nd label from Soft Suede card. Cut it down the centre before sticking it to the back of the crushed curry label to give a border.
- Stick your label to the bottom of the flap so it overhangs centrally.
- Add your butterfly and some adhesive rhinestones to finish.
This easy fold gives a striking card and this fabulous DSP makes it even more so.
