For this month’s Technique Tuesday Blog Hop, I am creating backgrounds with the scoring board.
Creating Backgrounds With The Scoring Board
You’ll find all the products I used to create my card listed at the bottom of this post with links to my shop.
Metric A4 | Imperial letter size | |
Cinnamon Cider card base | 10.5cm x 29.7cm Scored at 14.9cm on the long side. | 4 1/4″ x 11″ Scored at 5 1/2″ on the long side. |
Evening Evergreen | 14.4cm x 10cm | 5 1/4″ x 4“ |
DSP | 13.9cm x 4.5cm | 5″ x 1 3/4″ |
Basic White | 13.9cm x 6.5cm | 5″ x 2 3/8″ |
Basic White insert | 13.9cm x 9.5cm | 5″ x 3 3/4″ |
Instructions
- Fold the card base along the score line.
- Stick the Evening Evergreen mat to the card base.
- Stick the DSP to the top portion of the card base leaving an even border on the top and sides.
- Cut a 1cm/ 3/8″ strip from the long edge of the Basic White card.
- Using the score board (or trimmer) with the long side across the top, score the card at 1/2″ intervals..
- Turn the card over so the raised score lines are uppermost and sponge some Smoky Slate over the top with a sponge dauber. Sponge the edges of the strip of white too.
- Stick the scored panel to the bottom of the card front and then add the “shelf” with mini dimensionals.
- Fussy cut a selection of plants/pots from the DSP. I had to trim some of the plants down to fit the space. Stick the centre plant direct to the card base and use dimensionals on the other two. Add a few Cinnamon Cider In Color Square gems to decorate the pot.
- Stamp the sentiment onto a strip of Basic White in Cinnamon Cider ink and back with Cinnamon Cider card. Stick to the card base with dimensionals.
- Glue the Basic White insert in place on the inside of the card.

How Can I Help?
I have also used this fun little scoring technique in the past to create shop fronts. Whether you are displaying hats, dresses or cakes it adds a fun element.
I hope you have found some inspirational scoring techniques as you have hopped around these projects.

This is so effective! Great card Helen
How clever! I love how it looks like the plants are sitting on a counter top!
Great idea for this card design.
