Using Ephemera Pieces to Build a Card

For today’s post I have been using ephemera pieces to create a card.

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating World Cardmaking Day.

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

Using Ephemera Pieces to Build a Card

World Cardmaking Day has to be one of the easiest occasions for a cordmaker to get behind! And using Ephemera pieces to build that card is a quick and easy process.

But this card doesn’t depict cardmaking specifically, but reading is another of my favourite hobbies. And, of course, the stack of books from the Harvest Hues Mix & Match Ephemera Pack fitted the hobbies theme perfectly.

I started with one of the rich patterned papers from the Autumn Opulence 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper. I loved the warm, slightly rustic feel of this design and thought it made a great backdrop for the colourful books.

One of my favourite details is the faux stitching around the edge of the Designer Series Paper. I simply used a white gel pen to add little hand-drawn stitches. It is such an easy technique, but it gives the card an extra bit of texture and helps to frame the whole design.

I added a patterned strip across the bottom before arranging the stack of books, both taken from the Harvest Hues Mix & Match Ephemera Pack. The dotty tab is also from the ephemera pack. These pieces all pop out and they are self adhesive. That doesn’t mean you can still pop some dimensionals on the back and pop them up with dimensionals..

For the sentiment, I stamped “happy for you” from the Lily of the Valley Stamp Set onto a small stitched circle cut using the Stylish Shapes Dies. The metallic threads were created by pulling apart a piece of the Gold Striped mesh Ribbon. With them tucked behind the circle this adds another layer of texture without making the card feel too busy.

Finally, a few rhinestones provide just a touch of sparkle.

I really like the combination of warm autumnal colours with the brighter shades in the books — and Mix & Match ephemera makes cards like this wonderfully quick to put together.
