Timeless Christmas – Two More Festive Card Ideas with Helen’s Highlight

A scalloped card with a gingerbread feel and a beautifully simple holly Christmas card!

I’m continuing my October Helen’s Highlight, featuring the beautiful Timeless Christmas Suite from Stampin’ Up!

During my first Live earlier this month, we created two Christmas cards using the coordinating papers, labels, metallic cardstock and dies. This time, I’ve got two more projects to share, bringing our collection to four festive cards.

What I particularly love about this suite is its traditional Christmas feel. With gorgeous reds, greens, warm Pecan Pie tones, beautiful papers and bold sentiments, it’s ideal for creating cards that will never really go out of style.

And the coordinating Scalloped Christmas Cheer Dies are going to be useful long after Christmas is over!

A Gingerbread-Inspired Scalloped Christmas Card

For our first project, I decided to do something a little different with the largest scalloped rectangle die.

Rather than simply using the die-cut as a layer on an ordinary card, I used two large scalloped rectangles cut from Pecan Pie cardstock to create the actual card base.

A small folded strip of cardstock joins the two pieces together to form a hinge, allowing the card to open and close.

I then decorated the front with the lovely Pecan Pie snowflake Designer Series Paper and a tag cut from one of the patterned sheets.

The sentiment, Sending Christmas Cheer, was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed in white. I cut the words apart so I could arrange them around the tag, adding white textured ribbon, a little twine bow and some of the adorable holly embellishments.

To finish, I used a white gel pen to add faux stitching around the scalloped edges.

It was surprising how much difference that little bit of stitching made! Combined with the warm Pecan Pie cardstock and festive red and white stripes, it gave the whole card a rather lovely gingerbread feel.

Crafty tip: If you’re making a hinged scalloped card, it’s much easier to score the folds before assembling the card. Ask me how I know!

‘Tis the Season Holly Border

For our second card, I went back to basics with a little stamping.

Sometimes we get so carried away with all the beautiful patterned papers, dies and embellishments that we forget just how effective a few stamped images can be.

I started with a piece of Basic White cardstock and using the holly leaf stamp and Peaceful Pine ink, I stamped around the edges of the panel, starting in the corners and then filling the gaps.

Next came the berries, stamped in Real Red.

I left plenty of white space in the centre for the wonderfully bold ‘Tis the Season sentiment.

I mounted my stamped panel onto a Real Red mat and then onto a landscape, side-opening Pecan Pie card base.

The only additional decoration was a little Wink of Stella brushed over the berries to give them some festive sparkle.

And that was it!

No fancy folds, no bulky embellishments and no complicated layers. Just some lovely traditional Christmas stamping.

This would be a brilliant card to make in batches, particularly if you’ve got quite a few Christmas cards to send through the post.
