For today’s post I have created a card with pretty pastels and a little birthday sparkle.

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating National Princess Day.
We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

A Card With Pretty Pastels and a Little Birthday Sparkle!

Now, I must confess, I haven’t created a card featuring a princess, a tiara or even a carriage! Instead, I’ve taken inspiration from some of the softer, prettier elements on our Inspiration List to create a delicate floral birthday card.
That’s one of the things I love about the Festive Friday Challenge. You don’t have to follow the celebration literally. Simply choose at least three items from the Inspiration List and let your creativity take over!
My Inspiration List Choices
For challenge #FF0222, I’ve chosen five elements:
- Pastel Colours – A lovely combination of soft pinks, peaches, yellows, greens and blues.
- Detailed Die Cuts – The intricate floral edging on my Basic White square, created using the Tile Garden Dies.
- Vellum – A softly torn strip layered across the card front.
- Something Glittery – A little Wink of Stella on the flower centres and splattered across the background.
- Jewels – the addition of the Glossy garden Dots
Creating My Birthday Card
I started with a square card base in Barely Blush cardstock, measuring 12.5 cm square.
To add a little interest to the background, I cut a strip of matching cardstock and layered a piece of torn vellum over it.
Here’s a little tip! Adhesive has an annoying habit of showing through vellum. By placing my adhesive in the centre of the strip, I knew it would be completely hidden by the decorative square when I assembled the card.
For the main focal point, I die-cut a square of Basic White cardstock using the largest square from the Tile Garden Dies. I absolutely love the delicate pierced floral edging on this die!
Using the Tile Garden stamp set I stamped the stems and leaves in Soft Sea Foam before adding flowers in Crisp Cantaloupe and Lemon Lolly, swapping the colours around for the flower centres.
Along the bottom, I added a scattering of smaller flowers in Barely Blush and Hydrangea Hue, creating a pretty little floral border.
The Happiest Birthday greeting, stamped in Hydrangea Hue, finishes the panel beautifully.
Those Finishing Touches

I attached the stamped square using Stampin’ Dimensionals to create a little depth, then added a bow made from Hydrangea Hue bordered ribbon.
A few Crisp Cantaloupe Glossy Garden Dots add another decorative detail.
And, of course, we needed something glittery!
I used my Wink of Stella brush to add sparkle to the flower centres before gently splattering a little more across the background. It’s such a simple way to add that extra bit of magic to a handmade card.
I also decorated the inside with a few coordinating stamped flowers. After all, why should the outside have all the fun?

Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects’
How Can I Help?
We love to create these projects to share with you, but we love it even more when you share your projects with us. I hope you will be inspired to join the Festive Friday Challenge and share what you have created, inspired by our Inspo List.
The Festive Friday Challenges are a wonderful way to find fresh inspiration, especially when your crafty mojo needs a little nudge.
You only need to choose three items from the Inspiration List, and your project doesn’t even have to relate directly to the celebration.
I’d love to know which three elements you would choose for a National Princess Day project!
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help with your purchases, or if you have a crafty question.
Meanwhile stay safe and stay well
