Check out the challenge here

It has been a while since I have taken part in a Design Challenge, but this one caught my eye. Could I combine these three colours with the products I am highlighting this week – The Timeless Tulips stamp set and coordinating punch.

On a piece of watercolour paper, I laid down a Night of Navy watercolour wash using an Aqua Painter and ink. I then splashed some drops of water on it and blotted them to give some paler areas. Again using my Aqau Painter I splattered some Night of Navy ink onto the background. This gave a feel of rain in the background.

On some shimmery white cardstock I stamped 3 large tulips and 2 of the small buds in Crushed Curry. I then used the Crushed Curry watercolour pencil to add some more depth of colour. I had recently seen Emma Goddard do this (Coastal Crafter) and I loved the effect.

Also on shimmery white card I stamped 3 stems and 3 leaves in Garden Green and I used the Garden Green watercolour pencil to add more definition.

Using the punch, I punched out the large tulip heads and the leaves. I fussy cut the stems and buds. Now for a spot of flower arranging onto the painted background, with some flowers and leaves stuck down with tombow glue and others raised up with dimensionals. I added a bow in crushed curry and a sentiment stamped in Night of Navy and gently curved before being positioned over the stems of the flowers.

I backed the watercolour paper with a mat of black, before adhering it to a Night of Navy card base at an angle.

The finishing touch for this card was the addition of some shimmery crystal effects. I added some drops to the flowers and leaves to represent raindrops and some further drops randomly on the watercoloured background.

Although the colours in this challenge wouldn’t have initially been an obvious selection for creating a tulip card, I am really pleased with how it turned out. I would love to hear what you think. Do also go and check out the other entries in this challenge here
