For this month’s Stampin’ dreams Blog Hop I have created a scrapbook page with poppies.
The theme for this month’s hop is In Memoriam. very apt as the hop launches on Remembrance Day for us here in the UK. I have combined two elements of remembrance for my project.
One is poppies. Poppies are sold here in the UK to raise money for the Royal British Legion. This charity aims to support ex servicemen in many ways. Poppies are the chosen symbol, because they grew so prolifically on Flander’s Fields after the finish of World War 1 and have come to represent hope and peace.
The other element of remembrance is the pictures of my Mum (and my grandmother) that are displayed on my scrapbook layout. Mu Mum was very involved in the Women’s Section of the British legion and so it all drew together very nicely.
Of course scrapbooking is a creative way of memory keeping and journalling people and events who touch our lives.
A Scrapbook Page with Poppies
For my scrapbook page I started with a 12″ x 12″ Real Red piece of cardstock . I stamped a row of poppies along the bottom in Stazon.
I cut some panels in Basic Black and Basic White:
Basic Black
- 11 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ (29.5cm x 14cm
- 2 @ 6″ x 4″ (15.5cm x 10cm)
Basic White
- 11 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ (29cm x 13.5cm)
- 2 @ 5 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ (15cm x 9.5cm) (photo mats)
Using the Painted poppies stamp set, I stamped poppies and leaves onto the corners of the Basic White using Stazon ink. I then used the solid and splatter effect stamps in the set to add colour with Real Red and Garden Green ink. Five individual poppies were also stamped and die cut.
I picked some sentiments from the Lovely You stamp set to add to the white photo mats. I had to mask off a section of the “still in my heart” sentiment.
After sticking the white cardstock to the corresponding pieces of black cardstock, I then stuck them to the scrapbook page. I trimmed my photos to fit on the mats and added those.
Using the Poppy Moments dies I cut the cluster of poppies from Vellum and cut around the edge. I also cut 2 black fancy borders with the Painted Labels die. These were added to the edges of the photos, along with the die cut poppies. I used the poppies to hold the vellum pieces in place.
Finally, I die cut the word “Mum” from Basic Black cardstock with the Playful Alphabet dies and added that to my layout.
Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects
