For today’s post I have created a card for a little Halloween fun with Festive Friday

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating Piano Day.

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

My project used: Orange, Black, Green, Mesh, Die Cuts and Torn Paper.

A Little Halloween Fun with Festive Friday!

Festive Friday Challenge – Halloween Inspiration

Now, I have to admit that Halloween isn’t really an occasion I make cards for, and I certainly don’t have a huge collection of Halloween-themed stamps and supplies. But that’s one of the lovely things about the Festive Friday Challenge – you don’t necessarily need special products to join in!

For each challenge, we have an Inspo List containing ten different elements inspired by the occasion, and you only need to include three of them in your project.

This time, I managed to incorporate six!

Creating my Halloween card

I started with a Basic Black card base and added a layer of Timid Tiger cardstock, tearing the edges to give it a slightly rough, rustic look. I love the contrast of that bright orange against the black!

Next, I added a layer of Mossy Meadow cardstock, which provided a lovely autumnal background for my little Halloween scene.

For some extra interest and texture, I used the mesh-style die from the Sunset Coast Bundle, cutting a piece of Basic Black cardstock to sit behind my focal images. Although it isn’t traditional mesh, I thought the net-like design fitted the challenge beautifully and even had a slightly spooky, spider’s-web feel!

A little Halloween magic with ephemera!

The stars of this card are the gorgeous die-cut pieces from the Harvest Hues Mix & Match Ephemera Pack.

I chose the cheerful pumpkin, the witch’s hat and a selection of colourful autumn leaves in greens and oranges.

I arranged the pumpkin and leaves on the card front, adhering them flat, before adding the witch’s hat with Stampin’ Dimensionals to give the design a little extra depth.

I particularly love the way the hat sits in front of the pumpkin, creating a fun little Halloween scene without needing lots of stamping or colouring.

The orange checked banner is another piece from the ephemera pack, and it made the perfect home for my sentiment.

Keeping the sentiment simple

As I don’t really make Halloween cards, I didn’t have a suitable Halloween greeting in my stamp collection.

But I did have the Painted Pumpkins Stamp Set, which includes a lovely big ‘Hey’ sentiment!

I stamped this in black ink, fussy cut around the letters and attached it to the checked banner.

Sometimes a simple greeting is all you need, and I thought ‘Hey’ gave this card a rather playful feel!

Six from the Inspo List!

Here’s how I incorporated my chosen elements:

  • Orange: Timid Tiger cardstock, pumpkin and autumn leaves
  • Black: Card base, mesh die-cut and stamped sentiment
  • Green: Mossy Meadow cardstock and leaves
  • Mesh: The net-style die-cut from the Sunset Coast Bundle
  • Die Cuts: The decorative mesh and ephemera shapes
  • Torn Paper: The Timid Tiger cardstock layer

Not bad for a card created without a dedicated Halloween stamp set!

Let’s Hop

I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects’

How Can I Help?

Come and join the challenge!

One of my favourite things about Festive Friday is seeing how differently everyone interprets the same Inspo List.

You don’t have to make a Halloween card either! Just choose at least three elements from the list and use them to inspire whatever you fancy creating.

Why not have a rummage through your own crafting supplies and see what you can come up with?

Do pop over to the Festive Friday Challenge to see what the rest of the Design Team have created and share your own project.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help with your purchases, or if you have a crafty question.

Meanwhile stay safe and stay well
