For today’s post I have created A Poppy-Inspired Card for Festive Friday #FF0221

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating Armistice day/Veterans’ Day

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

A Poppy-Inspired Card

Although I didn’t have a traditional poppy stamp to hand, I thought that the open flower from the Boutique Blossoms Stamp Set looked rather poppy-like, particularly when stamped and coloured in Real Red.

Creating the Card

I started with a standard Basic White card base and added a Basic Black mat.

Onto this, I layered a piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 13.9 cm × 9.5 cm.

Before adhering the Real Red panel, I stamped the open flower from Boutique Blossoms several times across the cardstock using Real Red ink. This created a lovely, subtle tone-on-tone background.

For the focal image, I took a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and stamped the same flower using black Hybrid Ink.

I then stamped the flower onto masking paper, cut out the image and positioned the mask over my stamped flower.

With the mask in place, I stamped the leaf image twice, allowing the leaves to appear from behind the flower.

Once the mask was removed, I was ready to add some colour!

Using my inks as watercolours, I painted the flower with Real Red and the leaves with Mossy Meadow. I added some Basic Gray to the flower centre.

To soften the image and create a little depth, I added a wash of Cloud Cover ink around the flower. I love the subtle shadowy effect this gives.

Once everything was dry, I mounted the watercoloured panel onto Basic Black cardstock and adhered it to the card front at a slight angle.

Adding the Sentiment

The sentiment comes from the Phrases and Frames Stamp Set.

I stamped it onto Basic Black cardstock using Versamark ink, sprinkled with Silver Embossing Powder and heat embossed it.

I then cut the sentiment into three separate strips, arranging them across the card front.

The silver embossing adds a lovely little touch of shine against the black cardstock.

A Little Finishing Touch

Finally, I added a small button to the centre of my flower.

This is actually one of the Adhesive-Backed Mini Christmas Buttons!

It started life as a white button, but I coloured it using my dark Basic Black Stampin’ Blend.

The lovely thing is that, although the button is now black, it has retained its slightly glittery finish around the edge.

It’s always satisfying when we can use a product in a completely different way from its original purpose.
