In this post I have been doing some alcohol blending with Stampin’ Blends to create a background for my embossed and die cut vellum poppies.
This is my project for the new Festive Friday Challenge. For this challenge we are highlighting World Alzheimer’s Day. This is a disease that has such a profound impact on so many families, it is a good thing if we can use our creativity to shine a light on it.
The design team used the World Alzheimer’s Day to help us draw up our list of10 things to place on the Inspo List.
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!
My project used: red, purple, flower, heat embossing, die cut, thinking of you sentiment, ribbon, stitching
Alcohol Blending with Stampin’ Blends
I used Stampin’ Blends and Isopropyl Alcohol to create a blended vellum background. This was used to create my poppies.
The Blends I used were Poppy Parade (obviously!), Cherry Cobbler and Blackberry Bliss. I just made random blobs of each colour on the vellum. Using an old paint brush, I then dabbed the alcohol all around the outside of the blobs and let the colours merge into each other. It dries surprisingly quickly, although you can speed up the process with a heat tool if you prefer. The alcohol I used was 99.9%. I was just able to order it from Amazon.
Once dry, I turned my Vellum over and stamped the poppies from the Painted Poppies set and heat embossed them in black. They were then die cut with the coordinating Painted labels dies. I also stamped, heat embossed and die cut some leaves from Vellum. These were coloured with an Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Blend.
I die cut stitched rectangles in Basic Black and Basic White to layer my poppies onto.
The remaining strip of vellum was backed onto some Basic White cardstock and cut it in half. This was then stuck, half at the top of a Basic Black mat and half at the bottom. The layered rectangles were stuck over the top. This was then all mounted onto a Basic White card base.
The sentiment was from the art Gallery stamp set. Finishing touches were the Evening Evergreen Windowpane checked Ribbon and some Matte Black dots.
Another Blended Background
This alcohol blending technique is one I had been meaning to try out for a long time. I had my first play when creating this card for a recent Technique Class using Specialty Vellums from Stampin’ Up! I love any technique that means you never get the same result twice.
Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects
