For today’s Festive Friday Challenge, I have been colouring with Neutral Alcohol Markers.
The theme of this new Challenge is National Peanut Butter Lover’s day which is happening on March 1st. I eat Peanut Butter, but not sure I would class myself as a lover. I do however love the Inspo list we have to work from
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!
My project used: nuts, brown, texture, stripes, neutrals, twine, enamel dots, circles
Colouring with Neutral Alcohol Markers
Stampin’ Up! have just released a collection of Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends and I knew they would be perfect for colouring this cute squirrel.
Instructions
- Firstly, the Early Espresso Card Base is a standard size (14.9cm x 21cm /4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″)
- The Neutral 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Papers were cut into 3.5cm x 13.9cm/ 1 3/8″ x 5″ strips and then stuck to a 14.4cm x 10cm /4″ x 5 1/4″ mat of Crumb cake cardstock.
- Some Linen thread was wrapped twice around the mat an tied in a bow, before sticking it to the card base.
- Using the Layering Circle dies, a large circle was cut in Very Vanilla, a medium sized in Soft Suede and also a small circle in Early Espresso.
- The medium and small circles were then embossed with the Checks & Dots embossing folders.
The Squirrel
- The squirrel was stamped onto the Very Vanilla circle and coloured with a selection of the blends. These blends have numbers rather than names and some of the have red undertones and other more yellow. I chose a selection of these with the more red undertones which represents the beautiful little red squirrels that are native to the UK. They are not very widespread these days, but I was delighted to spot one when on holiday in the Lake District last year. I used SU400, SU600 and SU1000 for the squirrel and then SU700 and SU100 for the acorn.
- Using Crumb Cake ink, leaves were stamped on the edge of the circle. Two more leaves and the acorn portion of the squirrel stamp were stamped onto Very Vanilla card, coloured and then cut out.
- The sentiment was then stamped on Crumb Cake card in Early Espresso and cut into sections. These pieces were then all stuck onto the circle.
- Afterwards, the three circles were added to the card front, with dimensionals under the Very Vanilla circle.
- After that some Very Vanilla Matte dots were added to the card
- Finally, a very Vanilla insert was stamped with some leaves in Crumb cake ink and then stuck inside the card.

Love this card. That squirrel is absolutely adorable – love its facial expression. All of the brown hues are wonderful in the background as are all of the various circles, patterned papers and the twine in your design.
Such a cute card, Helen! Your coloring is amazing. Every time I see you create a card with this stamp set, I wonder why I still have not bought it. You have made the most adorable cards with it. Have a wonderful week!
