For this new Festive Friday Challenge I have been creating a soft pastel background for this moonlit scene.
The theme of the challenge this time is International Bat Night which runs overnight from August 29th until August 30th. We take the festivity and use it to create our Inspo list.
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

Instructions
- Fold the card base along the score line.
- On the Basic White layer, lay a plain circle die where you would like your moon to be and draw around the inside edge with the Mossy Meadow pastel. Colour around the outside of this circle with the Night of Navy , circling around the Mossy Meadow circle, leaving just the 4 corners white. Blend with your finger, a sponge dauber or a piece of sponge. Fill the corners in with Gorgeous Grape and then blend these in too. Allow the Pastels to blend slightly over the edge of your centre circle to give the impressions of clouds.
- Die cut the foliage using Basic Black card and the Meadow Dies.
- Tear the top of the Basic Black strip.
- Stick the foliage and the torn strip in place on the Soft pastel background.
- Stamp the birds from the Sailing Home stamp set over the moon.
- Stick the background piece to the Basic Black mat. Tie some silver Simply Elegant Twine around the bottom and finish with a bow. Stick this mat to the card front with dimensionals.
- Stamp the greeting from the Quiet Meadow stamp set onto a strip of Basic White card and tear at an angle. Stick to a strip of Basic Black card and again tear at an angle. Attach to the card front.
- Finish with some silver sequins.

How Can I Help?
I have only broken open my own set of Soft pastels over the last couple of weeks and I am really enjoying some of the things you can do with them.
I ran a technique class last week where we explored some different ways of making the most of this colouring medium. If you would like to access the recording of that Zoom Class and the downloads for the class, do message me.
If you live in the UK, I would love you to choose me as your demonstrator.

Beautiful card, Helen. I love the sky and the silhouettes. A wonderful compoition.
Beautiful card, Helen! The die cut against the moon is so striking. I LOVE the sky you created.
Wonderful card, I love the blended background. I have never tried using blending brushes with chalk pastels, which I have some from long ago and put away somewhere! Time to get them out!
