The colour challenge I have used today is perfect for creating a traditional Christmas card.
The colour challenge is this month’s challenge from Crafty Collaborations, a community of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world.
Creating a Traditional Christmas Card
Seeing the colours, I immediately thought of the Saint Nicholas bundle. The imagery in this stamp set is very detailed and has a real vintage feel.
There is also a great die set that compliments and coordinates with the red rubber cling stamp set.
You can see a full list of the products I have used at the end of the post, including links to my online shop.
Water Coloured St Nicholas
This first card uses all the colours from the challenge to create this water coloured image. The image was first stamped onto some Fluid 100 watercolor paper, before being coloured with Cherry Cobble and Early Espresso ink. The boots and gloves were coloured with Memento ink and the tree with Shaded Spruce. Some brighter colours were added into the sack of gifts.
To add shading and definition to St. Nick’s beard and fur trim, I used a Basic Gray watercolor pencil.
The entire image was surrounded with a Pool Party watercolour wash and Early Espresso ink was used to add the ground beneath St. Nicholas’ feet.
A Deckled rectangle die was used to cut the image out, cutting it again with the same die to make the panel narrower.
The pattern was cut into the Gold Foil with a decorative die from the St Nicholas set and a Cherry Cobbler was panel was stuck behind it.
The ribbon comes from the Online Gold & Silver trim combo. This narrow ribbon is especially useful with our festive crafting, so ensure you stock up on it.
The Designer Series paper is another online item and is one of the papers that were released at the beginning of the month. It is designed to go with this St Nicholas bundle.
The card base is in Cherry Cobbler with an early Espresso mat, to tie in with the Colour Challenge.
Some of the gold festive pearls were the finishing touch for this card.
Layers of Designer Series Paper
This second card moves away from the challenge colours and features the beautiful paper pack with its damask background papers.
This layer of red paper has been adhered to some Mossy meadow card and a Basic White card base.
To add more detail to the strip of holly paper, Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler watercolor pencils have been used to add shading to the holly leaves.
The St. Nicholas image is die cut from one of the sheets of paper and been added to the card front with dimensionals.
The sentiment has been cut up and backed with Real Red card before being added to the the card.
The finishing touch is some gold Self-adhesive sequins.
