Creating an Industrial Style Birthday Card

For today’s post I have been creating an industrial style birthday card.

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating Father’s Day.

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

Creating an Industrial Style Birthday Card

The focal point of the card is a collection of die-cut gears from the Gears & Textures Bundle. I die cut the gears from Basic Gray cardstock and added texture by heat embossing the splatter image from the bundle in Copper Embossing Powder. The embossed splatters create a wonderfully distressed, weathered metal effect that works perfectly with the steampunk-inspired design.

The background combines several layers of texture. The left-hand panel has been embossed using the Lovely Striped 3D Embossing Folder, while the centre panel features tone-on-tone stamping with Basic Gray Ink. I added strips of Nature’s Walk Designer Series Paper and distressed the edges to enhance the rugged feel of the card.

Touches of Earthen Tones Metallic Foil add warmth and shine, complementing the copper embossing beautifully. The layered gears create depth and movement across the card, while the sentiment from the Simply Said Stamp Set is framed with coordinating die-cut elements to tie the design together.

Although this challenge theme is Father’s Day, I chose to create a masculine birthday card, demonstrating how the inspiration list can spark ideas for many different occasions.
