I love creating cards with movement and the Give it a Whirl die from Stampin’ Up! is perfect for this.
I am sharing this project as part of the Stamping with Friends Blog Hop. This month we are showcasing some of the Stand Alone dies that are available from Stampin’ Up! These are the dies that don’t come as part of a bundle with coordinating stamp sets. Instead, you pick and choose which other products you use them with.
Creating Cards with Movement
I decided to have fun with the Give it a Whirl Die and combine it with cute elephants and gingham paper.
This So Saffron card base has a Basic White layer, on which the arrow is embossed with the Special Die. I started off intending for this card to be landscape, otherwise, I would have had the arrow pointing the other way.
I used the dies in the set to cut out the front panel from this So Saffron Designer Series paper that comes in the Gingham Cottage bumper pack as well as a circular aperture. Using So Saffron Cardstock, I also die cut the scalloped circular frame.
The wheel for the spinner card was cut using the die, from Basic White card. Onto the wheel I stamped peanuts and a sentiment in Crumb Cake ink. I added some colour to the peanuts with an Early Espresso watercolor pencil with a very light touch. The light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend provided the sky.
The wheel was attached to the front panel with a square brad and a small sliver taken from the circular frame to fit it around the aperture and the brad.
Now to add the elephants who are juggling the peanuts. Both elephants were coloured in Gray Granite with Petal Pink ears and toes. Their little mouse friend was coloured in Crumb Cake and Ivory. Three Sweet Sorbet and So Saffron butterflies are also fluttering around the card.
The clouds are die cut using dies from the Give it a Whirl set and have been shaded around the edges slightly with a Pool Party blend.

How Can I Help?
I love this Give it a Whirl die set. As well as all the pieces to make your mechanism, there are also different shaped apertures and hearts, stars and clouds you can add to your projects. And of course don’t forget the little directional arrows that are either available as a die that make embossed features in your project, or adorable little die cuts.
Which stand alone dies are now on your wish list?
Don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help with your purchases, or if you have a crafty question.
Meanwhile stay safe and stay well
