I have been creating Ombre Watercolour Backgrounds for this latest Festive friday project.
This new Challenge is celebrating World Art Day, so it seemed fitting to be using watercolour paper and having fun with washes and splatters.
World Art Day is happening on April 15th. This chosen celebration helps the Design Team to create a list of ideas.
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!
My project used: Watercolour paper, Paint Splats, Ombre and Frame – there was some yellow too so a touch of Primary Colours.
Creating Ombre Watercolour Backgrounds
For this card I used the Forever Fern stamp set to create these silhouette leaves on an ombre background. The frame was created with the soon to be retiring Ornate Layers dies. Make sure you check out all those Last Chance items in my shop. You don’t want to miss out on anything and there are some great discounts on some of the items.
Instructions
The watercolour paper I used to create this card was actually the packaging from some of out Fluid 100 Watercolour paper. We don’t want to waste anything!
I used Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight ink. I first flooded the paper with water and then starting at the bottom I used Melon Mambo ink and a Water Painter. As I dragged the colour up, it becomes less intense. This was repeated at the top with Daffodil Delight ink. The two colours were blended together in the middle.
The leaves were stamped in Stazon ink. The papers at the back of the card come from the Brights 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper selection. I used the die from the Ornate Layers to create the cut out feature in the Daffodil Delight strip. The Basic Black ornate frame helps the colours to pop.
The simple “hello” sentiment means you can send this card for lots of occasions – or simple “just because.”
To embellish the card I used the Black & White twine from the Playful pets combo and some Black Basic Matte dots.
You will of course need an insert in this card, so add a mat of Basic White cardstock and don’t forget to add some stamping or Designer Series paper to decorate.
Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects

How pretty! Love the colours!
Amazing as always Helen!!!
Great ombre background. Love the color combination!
Great showcase of that ornate frame – the black really stands out against the blended panel.
Beautiful, Helen! The black ornate frame is a perfect contrast to the gorgeous water colored background you created. LOVE it! Have a wonderful week!
The frame really highlights that soft, blended background. Beautiful card!
This is gorgeous! I love your ombre background and your color choices are wonderful. The stamp looks fabulous on the watercolor paper. The black frame really complements the background so beautifully, and I love that little yellow strip behind the frame.
Helen, your card reminds me of Victorian England. That fabulous rose-pink color with the black frame and botanical print! Fabulous card
