Today I will be sharing How to Create a Simple Pop Up Card with Stamped Flowers

A Pop Up Surprise from This Week’s Technique Class

This week in my technique class we explored something that always brings a little gasp when the card is opened… a pop up design!

I love teaching interactive cards because they look far more complicated than they actually are — and this one was no exception. When closed, it looks like a pretty floral card with a soft rustic feel. But when opened, the bouquet pops forward and becomes the star of the show.

And yes… there were smiles around the table when everyone saw it spring to life!

The Front of the Card

For the front, I kept things soft and fresh. The sentiment:

“You make my life better just by being in it”

is perfect for so many occasions — friendship, encouragement, thank you, even just-because.

The floral images, butterflies and sentiment all come from the Pop Up Petals Bundle, which includes two-step stamping and coordinating dies. I love two-step stamping because it gives you depth and detail without needing lots of colouring. Quick, effective and perfect for classes.

The stitched layering and rustic base keep it grounded, while the butterflies add that sense of movement — hinting at what’s to come inside.

The Pop Up Inside

And here’s where the magic happens…

When the card opens, the stamped florals are arranged into a little bouquet that pops forward from the centre fold. The patterned wrap creates the feel of flowers gathered and tied together, and the butterflies floating around add a bit of lightness.

Interactive cards don’t have to be complicated mechanisms — sometimes it’s just about clever placement and layering.

This style of pop up is ideal if:

• You want something different from a standard fold
• You love dimension but still want the card to fold flat
• You enjoy using coordinating dies to create layered elements

Here are a few photos from the class too — I always love capturing those in-progress moments. There’s something really special about watching people build in confidence and experiment with new ideas

One of my favourite things about teaching is not only watching everyone get creative, but also the sense of community that grows when people come together around a shared interest.

A Gentle Reminder

If you love creating cards that surprise and delight when opened, don’t be afraid to experiment with pop up elements. You don’t need a complicated mechanism — just a willingness to play. Although I didn’t use it for this project, the Pop Up Petals dies have a couple of dies that will create simple pop up mechanisms for you.

And sometimes the most impactful detail isn’t on the outside… it’s revealed when someone takes the time to open it.
