The theme for this hop is masculine cards

Good Times – A Fresh Take on Masculine Cardmaking

Handmade masculine card in Soft Sea Foam and Lost Lagoon featuring layered square frames, botanical stamping and “Good Times” sentiment using Stampin’ Up! Joyful Squares Bundle.

Creating masculine cards can sometimes feel a little tricky. We often think we need bold colours, tools, or “obviously male” imagery… but sometimes all it takes is strong structure, clean layers and a confident colour combination.

For this card, created for a recent class, I used the Joyful Squares Bundle and the Etched Autumn stamp set from Stampin’ Up! to create a layered design with depth and texture.

Instead of going dark and heavy, I chose Soft Sea Foam and Lost Lagoon — a fresh, calming combination that still feels grounded and elegant.

You can see a full list of the products I have used at the end of the post, including links to my online shop.

Why This Works as a Masculine Design

  • ✔ Strong geometric framing using layered squares
  • ✔ Angled striped panel for movement and interest
  • ✔ Clean circular sentiment focal point
  • ✔ Minimal embellishment (twine instead of ribbon)
  • ✔ Nature-inspired stamped elements rather than florals

The structured layout gives the design strength, while the botanical images add detail without becoming overly decorative.

Design Details

  • Stamped botanical elements layered around the frame for balance
  • Striped angled panel to break up the background
  • Twine bow for subtle texture
  • Dimensional layering for depth
  • Sentiment framed inside a square window for a modern finish

The “Good Times” sentiment makes this perfect for:

  • Birthdays
  • Retirement
  • Celebrations
  • Congratulations
  • Father’s Day
  • Thinking of You

Masculine doesn’t have to mean plain. It can simply mean intentional.

A Little Challenge for You…

If you struggle with masculine cards, try this:

  1. Start with a geometric shape.
  2. Choose two coordinating colours.
  3. Keep embellishments simple.
  4. Add one strong focal sentiment.

You might be surprised how quickly a design comes together.
