On this post I am sharing some monochromatic magic in Darling Duckling

Each week Demonstrators from the Crafty Collaborations Community take part in a Monochromatic Insta Hop over on Instagram. Each week a different colour is chosen and the participants create a monochromatic card.

This project from a couple of weeks ago used Darling Ducking

Monochromatic Magic in Darling Duckling

There’s something really satisfying about working in just one colour, and this card is a perfect example of how monochromatic doesn’t have to mean boring. By layering tones, textures, and patterns, you can still create plenty of interest while keeping the overall look clean and cohesive.

A single colour palette

For this card I worked entirely in Darling Duckling, using papers from the 2025–2027 In Color Designer Series Paper pack. These papers are ideal for monochromatic projects because they give you subtle pattern and variation without introducing extra colours.

I love how the mix of soft textures and gentle stripes adds depth while still keeping everything calm and harmonious.

Fussy-cut florals

The flowers are fussy cut directly from the Designer Series Paper, which is such a simple way to add detail without needing extra stamps or dies. Cutting them by hand gives a lovely organic feel and allows you to choose exactly which parts of the pattern you want to feature.

Layering the flowers and leaves adds dimension, and I kept the embellishment minimal so the colour could really shine.

Sentiment and finishing touches

The sentiment comes from the On Display bundle and fits beautifully with the clean, modern feel of the card. I like how the wording is broken up and tucked in among the flowers rather than being the main focal point.

A little twine and a few subtle embellishments finish everything off without distracting from the monochromatic theme.

Why monochrome works

Working in one colour:

  • creates a really elegant, pulled-together look
  • lets texture and layering do the talking
  • is perfect when you want a calm, stylish card
  • works brilliantly for batch-making

This design would translate easily into other colours too – imagine it in Highland Heather, Soft Sea Foam, or Gray Granite – but Darling Duckling really does have that warm, cheerful glow.

If you’re ever unsure what to make, try limiting yourself to just one colour and see where it takes you. It’s a great creative challenge and often leads to surprisingly lovely results.
