Red, Black & Gold Elegance Card

For today’s post I have created a red black & gold elegance card.

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating Chinese New Year.

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list! 

My project used:

Red, Black & Gold Elegance Card

Elegant Black & Gold with a Hint of Red

I started with a bold black panel as my focal layer. There’s something so timeless and dramatic about gold on black — it instantly elevates a design.

The beautiful foliage image from the Friendly Foliage stamp set was heat embossed in Gold Embossing Powder, giving that rich metallic shine and crisp detail. The simple geometric frame on the image grounds the design and gives it a slightly contemporary feel.

To bring in texture and a little celebratory sparkle, I added loose gold sequins throughout the foliage. They catch the light beautifully and echo the festive feel of the challenge theme.

A wrap of Black & Gold twine finishes the card with subtle texture and balance.

Finally, I layered everything onto a red card base — a nod to the traditional colour of Chinese New Year and a wonderful way to make the gold really pop.

The sentiment, also heat embossed in gold, reads:

“Wishing you all the best.”

It felt like a lovely, universal phrase that gives a nod to the Good Luck sentiment in the Inspo list.

Why I Love This Challenge

What I adore about Festive Friday is the flexibility. Even though the theme is Chinese New Year, the Inspo List allowed me to create something elegant and versatile that could be used for so many occasions.

Black and gold will always have a place in my craft room — it’s dramatic, classy and surprisingly easy to create when you let heat embossing do the work.
