This simple foldback fancy fold card features the Pretty Birds Bundle and also some of the new In Colors for this month’s blog hop from the Creativity Abounds team.

My tutorial features the gorgeous new Sweet Sorbet in a monochromatic card, but for this hop I have chosen some different In Colors.

Simple Foldback Fancy Fold Card

The new Tahitian Tide and Orchid Oasis are perfect colours for these budgerigars in the Pretty Birds bundle. I teamed this stamp and die bundle together with the new In Color Designer Series Papers and added a sentiment from the Garden Birdhouses set.

Instructions

This simple Fancy Fold card was created by folding the front panel back on itself. Mats of Tahitian Tide cardstock and Designer Series Paper were then added. A further strip of DSP was added across the centre of both the front and back panel. Next, some Faux stitching was added around these DSP panels with the Orchid Oasis Stampin’ Write marker.

The diamond shaped panel on the front was created from the stitched squares in the new Stylish Shapes dies. Some Pale Papaya was then blended onto the centre of the white square.

Silver embossing on Orchid Oasis cardstock was used for the birdcage, which was then die cut with the coordinating die. The two budgerigars were stamped in Memento ink before being coloured with Stampin Blends in Tahitian Tide, Orchid Oasis and Pale Papaya. I have pinned a few pictures of budgerigars on my Pinterest Board to help with inspiration. The birds were then also die cut with coordinating dies.

Feather Galore

In the die set are lots of small feather dies, which enabled me to produce a flurry of Orchis Oasis feathers that are stuck diagonally along the card and also at the top of the cage, along with a bow of In Color thread.

There are no sentiments in the Pretty Birds bundle, so it seemed appropriate that I turned to the Garden Birdhouses set for this Birthday Wishes sentiment.

How can I Help?

It was so common for people to have budgerigars or canaries when I was a child. We had them as a family, as did my Grandmother. For us in the UK, these were beautiful birds we had in a cage with their seed, their piece of cuttlefish bone and a mirror and bell hanging from the cage. It seemed amazing to us that these were common birds in the wild elsewhere in the world.

These new In Colors are perfect for adding colour to these pretty birds. I was delighted to see this set in the new catalogue and I can’t wait to experiment with other colours.
