Today I am sharing this under the sea diorama card with you, which is another project from my Blog Co-Op. This project was created and submitted by Robin Messenheimer
“Case”ing With a New Catalogue Product
When you order a brand-new product from a Stampin’ Up! Catalogue, it is frequently because of how it is displayed. When it came to the brand-new stamp set, Seascape, what first caught Robin’s eye was this card. It’s on page 12 of the 2021-2022 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. What she loved most about it, was the sense of depth and movement about everything in the card.
Getting Started
Once Robin had the stamp set – as well as the Layering Diorama Dies that the design called for – she started thinking about how she could make this card her own, while keeping many of its features. This is called, “CASEing.” Copy And Share.
There were three things that Robin chose to change on this card. The first was to change the colour of the card base. In the sample, all the layers were Balmy Blue. To get those different blues and the sense of depth, you need to sponge color on the 2nd and 3rd layers of the card front. Instead, Robin chose to use (from front to back) Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, and Bermuda Bay cardstock.
Then she changed the color of the coral to Calypso Coral.
Keeping with the Calypso Coral theme, she chose to use Calypso Coral Ink to stamp both large fish. Finally, she chose a sentiment from another stamp set.
Constructing the Under the Sea Diorama Card
Here are the steps Robin took to make this card.
The Card Base
- 1. Make a card base using Bermuda Bay Cardstock, folded at the top (10.5cm x 29.7cm / 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, folded in half).
- 2. Stamp the coral image using VersaMark onto the bottom of the front of the card base and emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.
- 3. Stamp the group of 3 small fish three times over towards the left of the card front in Versamark. Set the card front aside.
- 4. Cut an aperture in a 14.9cm x 10.5cm / 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” piece of Coastal Cabana Cardstock using the largest of the dies in the Layering Diorama Die set.
- 5. Cut a an aperture in a 14.9cm x 10.5cm / 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” piece of Pool Party Cardstock using the 3rd largest of the dies in the Diorama Die set.
- 6. Using VersaMark, stamp the 3 small fish stamp onto the Pool Party layer towards the top at the left and right edges.
- 7. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the Pool Party layer onto the Coastal Cabana Layer.
- 8. Using Stampin’ Dimensionals, adhere the two glued-together layers onto the card base.
Decorating the Card Front
- 1. Die cut the two-small fish in the Sea Life Die set (they’re both part of one die) using Daffodil Delight Cardstock. Using Mini Glue Dots, adhere the right-facing fish just shy of halfway down the left edge.
- 2. Die cut the coral using Calypso Coral Cardstock. Using a combination of Mini Glue Dots and Small Stampin’ Dimensionals, adhere it into lower left quadrant of the card front about 1.5cm / 3/4″ up from the bottom.
- 3. Using Calypso Coral Classic Stampin’ Pad, stamp two of the large fish onto Basic White Card Cardstock. Cut out the fish using Paper Snips. Adhere them near the right edge of the diorama layers using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Brighten them up with Rhinestone Basic Jewels for their eyes.
- 4. Using VersaMark, stamp a sentiment of your choice onto Crumb Cake Cardstock. Emboss it using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Trim the cardstock into a rectangle.
- 5. Using Mini Glue Dots, adhere two 2.5cm / 1” long pieces of Metallic Mesh Ribbon to the back of the sentiment layer.
- 6. Adhere the sentiment layer over the die-cut coral using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Finishing the Under the Sea Diorama Card
As the card base is dark cardstock, adhere a 14.4cm x 10cm / 5-1/4” x 4” piece of Basic White Cardstock to the inside of the card. Robin decorated hers by stamping a row of the 3 small fish stamp using Calypso Coral ink.
How can I Help
I hope you enjoyed seeing how Robin took a sample from the catalogue and used it to inspire her own Under the Sea Diorama Card. These products haven’t made it off my wish list yet, but I have certainly been inspired to give it a go.
Maybe you have some ideas for some changes of your own! If you do and you’d like to share it with me, I’d love to see it.
