For this latest Festive Friday Challenge, which has been inspired by World Autism Awareness Day, I have created this rainbow card using blending brushes and masking.
Here is the Inspo list that we have created, inspired by our theme.
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!
My project used: bright colours; rainbow; blue; masking; square card
Some Inspiration
This photograph popped up on my Social media this week. it was called Rainbows in the Rain. It was taken from Scafell in the Lake District here in the UK and I thought it beautifully illustrated the message of hope on the darkest of days.
We have needed this message as a family this week as we are reeling from the shock of losing my Goddaughter, suddenly and unexpectedly at the beginning of the week at the age of 27. She was always a Rainbow girl from childhood and into adulthood it was reflected in her philosophies, her pastimes, her relationships and very definitely her wardrobe.
So in designing the project for this challenge, she is the heart of the card as she will always be in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.

A4 Metric | Imperial Letter Size | |
Pacific Point Card Base | 14.9cm x 29.7cm scored at 14.9cm on the long side | 5 1/2″ x 11″ scored at 5 1/2″ on the long side. |
Basic Black | 14.4cm square | 5 1/4″ square |
Basic White | 13.9cm square | 5″ square |
Basic White Card insert | 13.9cm square | 5″ square |
Instructions
- Fold the card base along the score line.
- Cut the “Always” and punch the scalloped heart from the middle of the Basic Black mat before sticking it to the card base.
- Take a piece of scrap paper and cut a wide arc in the top to use as a mask for creating the rainbow. lay the scrap paper across the corner of the Basic White Card and using the Blending Brushes and starting with Poppy Parade ink, lay down the first stripe of the rainbow. Move the paper down and add in Pumpkin Parade. Carry on down the card creating the stripes. After you have laid down the Gorgeous Grape strip, blend over the edge of it towards the bottom corner using your brush with purple ink on it, but without re-inking. This will help to soften the bottom edge.
- Stick the rainbow mat to the card base. Stamp the “in my heart” onto some Basic White card. Cut the words out separately and mat onto some basic Black card. Die cut some of the small hearts using the die from the Stitched Be Mine dies.
- Punch a heart from some Poppy Parade card.
- Arrange the greeting and hearts onto the card front, adding the punched heart to the front with dimensionals. Add a few of the matte dots.
- Tie a length of the black/white twine around the card. Stick the Basic White insert inside.

Oh, Helen! Your sponged rainbow is so pretty! Our new blending brushes are the best! The black hearts and the matte black dots are the perfect accents. What a STUNNING picture of the rainbow! How I would love to visit this ruggedly beautiful place! Have a wonderful weekend…
The Lake District is beautiful Ann. Lots of rain, but you can’t have rainbows and lush green without it.
Love your card – a perfect example of using the blending brushes for such soft and even color. (Beautiful photo too!)
Thank you
