Today’s blog is showing you some ways of using ribbon in cardmaking.

The project is party of the monthly Technique Tuesday Blog Hop from the Crafty Collaborations community, a diverse group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world who come together to share inspiration with you.

The theme this month is Ribbon and I can’t wait to see all the other ideas that my fellow demonstrators have come up with

Using Ribbon In Cardmaking

I used a couple of different floral stamp sets for these two projects, the Lovely & Lasting stamp set and the Marigold Moments.

Twisted Ribbon Technique and Tassels

Have you ever had one of those days? I was certainly experiencing one as I was creating these projects on a recent Live. I don’t know if the expressions “getting your knickers in a twist” is an expression elsewhere in the world, but as I attempted this twisted ribbon effect card, my knickers were definitely more twisted that my paper! If you want a laugh, watch me battle on the video below – yes I haven’t edited it – this is real life crafting.

After I had finished, my card looked pretty, but it still wasn’t right, but you can see the results of my fresh attempt away from the camera below, along with a guide to getting it right.

However, to finish my card I used the White Frayed ribbon to create a tassel. This ribbon is a great one to unravel to give you these fine fibres that make a soft tassel. I added colour to the end with a Sweet Sorbet Stampin’ Blend.

I threaded the tassel through a punched out label and layered it over stamped and fussy cut flowers.

All the papers, stamps and even the punch in this project come from the Lovely in Linen Suite from the Annual Catalogue.

Here is what my twisted ribbon mat should have looked like. It is a lovely technique, once you get it right.

The dotted lines are the score lines.

I hope this will help you if you haven’t tried the technique before and would like to have a go.

Creating Faux Knots

This second card features stamped and die cut marigolds from the Marigold Moments bundle. I wrapped some ribbon around a piece of Basic White cardstock, adhering the different strips to the back with tear & tape to save ribbon. With the bottom strip I created a faux knot.

These are created by wrapping your ribbon around something solid – I have used my Stampin’ Spritzer, but I have seen other people use Acrylic Blocks and Multipurpose Glue bottles. You need to tie a double knot before slipping your ribbon off of the spritzer. This leaves you with a loop of ribbon. You now just need to cut the loop on an angle to make the ends of your knot.

You can see me creating these projects ( or at least trying to!) on this video of my recent Live.

Let’s Hop

I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects

How Can I Help?

I will be creating another twisted ribbon card very soon, just to prove to myself that I can, but I am also excited to see what other ribbon techniques I will be inspired to include in upcoming projects. The sharing of ideas is one of the fabulous things about being part of the Stampin’ Up! crafting community.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help with your purchases, or if you have a crafty question.

Meanwhile stay safe and stay well
