Today’s card is illustrating using the masking technique in cardmaking to create a vibrant arrangement of flowers. It is my project for this month’s blog hop from the creativity Abounds team.
The Creativity Abounds Design Team are a group of very keen Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from all around the world that are coming together to share our creative ideas with you. We are happy that you can join us and hope that we can Inspire you to make creations of your own.
You may be starting here or have come from someone else’s blog – either way there is a list at the end of this post to help you move around all the different blogs and get many amazing ideas. We all have our country listed – so if you are looking for a demonstrator in your country, then these demonstrators would love to look after you with your Stampin’ Up!® shopping or if you would like to join our Stampin’ Up!® teams.
These monthly blog hops also introduce you to our latest Tutorial Bundle containing lots of different inspiring projects.
Using The Masking Technique in Cardmaking
Both the blog hop and the tutorial bundle this month are using the Two Tone Floral bundle, which features a two step stamping photopolymer stamp set and coordinating dies. It is part of a bigger suite which also features the Something Fancy Bundle – a sentiment stamp set and label dies.
I also chose to use the 2021-2023 In Colors which are due to retire very soon.
Using Masking.
This card measures 14.9cm x 14.9cm, as this is the largest square base you can create from a piece of A4 cardstock. If you use Letter-size Cardstock, then 5 1/2″ square is the largest square card you can produce.
To create my card I started by stamping three of the solid flower images onto some masking paper. I them used my Paper Snips to fussy cut the images.
Once I have peeled the backing off of the images, i am left with three sticky masks that I can lay over my stamped images.
I started by stamping the three Polished Pink flowers, using two-step stamping to add the detailed layer over the top. I covered up the first pink flower and added a Fresh freesia Flower on one side of it and a Pale Papaya flower on the other. I also added some Evening Evergreen leaves.
I lifted the mask off and moved it across to the next Polished pink flower. At this stage I also covered my Fresh Freesia Flower. I stamped in another Pale Papaya flower , some Soft Succulent foliage and another Fresh Freesia flower. I continued in this way, moving masks and adding details until I was happy with the arrangement.
I stamped the sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set onto the card front.
Adding Butterflies
I wanted to add some butterflies to my card, so I first blended some Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia and Pale Papaya ink onto a small piece of Basic White card. The dies I used were from the Brilliant Wings dies.
The butterflies were added to the card front with thin slivers of Dimensionals that I had cut from the edge of the sheet.
The bow of Pale Papaya ribbon was given some shape by heating the ends with the Heat Tool to curl it up. This was added to the card front with glue dots.
To keep in with the In Color theme, the final embellishments were some of the 2021-2023 In Color Opal Rounds.
Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects

How Can I Help?
I had great fun creating this card and my husband came and stood behind me and watched with interest as he worked out what I was doing.
This is a beautiful bundle and all the other elements of the Fancy flora Suite are certainly worth checking out. I’m sure you will be inspired by the creativity in this team.
