Waterside Retreat Fancy Fold Card

For today’s post I have created a Waterside Retreat Fancy Fold Card.

This card is my contribution to the Design Team’s selection for the latest Festive Friday Challenge, which is celebrating National Zoo Awareness Day Day.

We have used this occasion to come up with a list of elements that we call our Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list! 

My project used: Neutral Colours, Stripes and fancy Fold card.

Rather than heading off to the zoo with my project, my inspiration took me somewhere altogether more peaceful — to a waterside retreat!

Waterside Retreat Fancy Fold Card

This is a card that I created earlier in the summer using products from the gorgeous Waterside Retreat Suite, and I thought it was perfect for this challenge.

The Designer Series Paper gave me both the neutral colour palette and the stripes from the Inspo List. I love the combination of the soft, muted patterns with the rich brown tones. They create a wonderfully relaxed feel that works beautifully with the waterside imagery.

Of course, my third element is the fancy fold.

From the front, the card almost looks like a traditionally layered card, with the chair forming the focal point in the centre. However, when you look at it from the side, you can really see the structure of the card and the different panels that create the fold.

I love a card with a little surprise!

Creating the Scene

The focal panel features the wonderful chair die cut, surrounded by lots of little details from the Waterside Retreat Suite.

The cup and saucer, bag, bird and foliage all help to build the scene. It looks like the perfect place to sit with a cup of something lovely, watch the world go by and enjoy a little peace and quiet.

The sentiment “Here’s to a new chapter” finishes the card beautifully. I think it could work for so many occasions — retirement, moving house, a new job or simply the beginning of a new adventure.

It is also a lovely reminder that we don’t always have to interpret the Festive Friday theme literally. Sometimes one small element on the Inspo List is all it takes to send your creativity off in a completely different direction.
