This post demonstrates weaving ribbon in cardmaking, as well as other techniques to add texture and interest to projects. The card has been created as my Design Team project for the latest Festive Friday Challenge.

The theme for this challenge is National Wear Red Day, which is happening on 3rd February. As always, we look at the theme and use that to bring together a list of elements which we call the Inspo List.

The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge.  Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all!  The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!

My project used: red, fabric, ribbon, clothes, weaving, square card, rhinestones, texture.

Weaving Ribbon in Cardmaking

Weaving ribbon along with the In the Moment stamp set from Stampin' Up!

When I browsed the list, I really wanted to have a play with weaving some ribbon and I was keen to see how I could add some texture to my project. I decided to use this lady from the “In the Moment” stamp set as my focal point.

Adding Texture

Adding tecture to the paper piecing on these clothes by using Linen Paper that has been coloured with Stampin' Blends

For my woven piece, I began with the scalloped rectangle which has the splits along the side. The woven ribbon is then thread through those side slits and adhered to the back. The finished piece reminded me of a rug, which my relaxing lady could sit on.

I decided I would do a little bit of paper piecing with the lady’s clothes. For her trousers, I stamped onto the Speciality Linen Paper and added colour with a Light Starry Sky Stampin’ Blend. I loved the textured effect. Her top was stamped onto Real Red cardstock and some shading was added with a Read Red Stampin’ Blend marker.

With Stampin’ Up’s Natural Tones, there are lots of variations of skin tones that you can use. I chose quite a pale tone.

I fussy cut the image out and layered it over the “rug” with dimensionals. Because of the depth of the rug, I used a double layer of dimensionals under the lady’s head.

I kept the card quite simple, just adding the stamped sentiment and some Red Rhinestones to the front of this square card. The stamped mat was layered onto a Real Red square and then a Basic Black layer before adding to a 12.5cm/ 5″ square card.

Let’s Hop

I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects
