Have fun creating your own cardmaking stencils with this garden themed project for the latest Festive Friday challenge.
This new challenge from the Festive Friday team is celebrating World Planting Day which is coming on 20th March. With this occasion in mind we put together our Inspo List.
The Inspo List is 10 items you can choose from to create your project in our card making and paper crafting challenge. Incorporate THREE of the items in your project and link up! And guess what? Your project doesn’t have to be about the theme at all! The selected festivity is just a unique way to come up with a fun and interesting inspiration list!
My project used: flowers, garden tools, green, encouragement, wellington boots, bugs/insects, stencils
Creating Your Own Cardmaking Stencils
There are a few fun gardening themed bundles in the January- June mini catalogue from Stampin’ Up! and I have used elements from two of them,
- Flowering Rain Boots Bundle
- Home and Garden Bundle.
I also created my own stencil, by die cutting a wellington boot from a piece of scrap card.
Measurements
Metric | Imperial | |
Granny Apple Green Card Base | 10.5cm x 29.7cm Scored at 14.9cm on the long side. | 4 1/4″ x 11″ Scored at 5 1/2″ on the long side. |
Melon Mambo | 14.4cm x 10cm | 5 1/4″ x 4“ |
Basic White | 13.9cm x 9.5cm | 5″ x 3 3/4″ |
Vellum | 13.9cm x 9.5cm | 5″ x 3 3/4″ |
Basic White | 7cm x 3cm | 3 1/4″ x 1 1/8″ |
Basic White Insert | 13.9cm x 9.5cm | 5″ x 3 3/4″ |
Instructions
- Fold the card base along the score line and stick the Melon Mambo mat to the base.
- Lay the Wellington Boot stencil you have created over the Basic White cardstock and using a blending brush and Melon Mambo ink, add ink into the aperture. Before moving the stencil, lay a floral stencil from the Butterflies & Flowers layering stencils over the top and add more Melon Mambo ink with the blending brush.
- Repeat this process until you have covered your mat of card with patterned wellington backgrounds. Using Melon Mambo ink and the wellington boot stamp, add the detail on top of these backgrounds. Stamp some butterflies from the Daffodil Daydream stamp set in Melon Mambo in the gaps. Blend some Daffodil Delight ink over the top. Stick this mat to the card base.
- Stick a vellum overlay over this mat, adding glue in the 4 corners and in the centre where the sentiment strip will lay. Cut 2 x 1.5cm/1/2″ squares of Melon Mambo cardstock and cut them in half diagonally. These are added in the four corners to cover the adhesive.
- Stamp the sentiment onto the right hand side of the strip of Basic White card with Basic Gray ink. Blend some daffodil delight ink around the edges. Stick to the card front.
The Garden Tools
- Stamp the watering can onto Smoky Slate cardstock with Basic Gray ink and die cut. Stamp the seed packets using Mango Melody ink and die cut. Using the Garden Dies, die cut the tools from Granny Apple Green and Smoky Slate cardstock. Arrange these pieces on the left of the Basic White sentiment strip. Add a bow of linen thread.
- For the card insert, add another Wellington Boot using the stencils and stamp and add a couple of butterflies. Add some Daffodil Delight ink around the butterflies.
Let’s Hop
I hope you have enjoyed my project. Do leave a comment if you can, because it certainly makes my day. Then it is time to hop around all the other projects

The background you stenciled is so clever and turned out wonderful. Perfect to go with those adorable little garden tools!
Love the stencil you made. What a great idea. The photo corner idea to hide the adhesive is so smart. A fabulous card for the challenge!
Helen your stenciled background is awesome and yes these two bundles go so well together. I must remember the corner tip for my vellum projects thanks
Love this design. Your stenciled background is wonderful and I love those little garden tools. Ditto on thoughts about your clever way to hide the glue on vellum!
I am all about the stencils at the moment and making them out of everything so this is another great idea! Love the vellum tip too!
That background is everything! What a cool idea. I also love how you clustered the tools and the watering can. What a great way to showcase these wonderful products!
