I was checking out a few current challenges to inspire me this morning. I came across the new Colour challenge from the Global Design Project.

The Thought Process

My first reaction was “Really”?!. But hey, it is supposed to be a challenge. So I grabbed some of each colour cardstock and the three ink pads and sat perusing my stamp sets.

I also knew I had some of the 6″ x 6″ In Color Designer Paper stack. The Pretty Peacock script pattern spoke to me from the box and a desire to tear it!

It was bringing in the Mossy Meadow that I was struggling with the most, so I decided I needed some foliage and that water colouring would give me the best range of tones.

The Result

My finished card was a Pretty Peacock card base with a Merry Merlot mat on top. I then tore the edges of a piece of Pretty Peacock DSP and sponged the edges with Pretty peacock ink. The flowers came from the “Bloom and Grow” stamp set and were stamped in Stazon onto shimmery white cardstock. I used Pretty Peacock, Merry Merlot and Mossy Meadow ink to water colour the image.

The Budding Blooms dies that co-ordinate with the stamp set made quick work of cutting out the flowers. The twin scalloped dies made a cute Mossy Meadow trim.

I stamped the small “hello” from the stamp set in Versamark and heat embossed in gold. It was then punched out using the classic label punch. The edge of this piece with sponged with Pretty Peacock ink too.

Lastly I punched a couple of sprigs from gold glimmer card.

I arranged all the elements, using dimensionals to raise the flowers up.

Finishing touches came in the form of rhinestones from the Noble Peacock suite, sequins from the Woven Threads collection and a Mossy Meadow linen bow.

Having been so unsure of this colour combination to start with, I was quite pleased with the finished result. It goes to show, you should never be frightened of rising to a challenge.
