In my family a Cup of Tea has always been the answer to any dilemma. Illness; bereavement; celebration; too hot; too cold; just broken up with your boyfriend……Have a nice cup of tea. All will be well.

It was natural then, when I was pondering over what I should create for my Guest Designer slot at the Global Design Challenge, that my mind would wander to tea.

Challenge #205

It is exciting and more than a little bit daunting to be asked to be a guest designer for this challenge. However, as my card was chosen as the winner for #GDP201 (which you can see here), I knew I needed to put on my Big Girl Pants and get thinking.

This palette of colours is really soft and a touch vintage and it reminded me of the finer things in life – china tea sets and afternoon tea.

The colour palette was also going to give me the perfect excuse to order the new colours of Stampin’ Blends from the Annual Catalogue that I hadn’t got around to buying yet. (Whoops!)

Tea Together

The Tea Together stamp set had featured in the Spring/Summer Occasions catalogue with the matching dies available as a Sale-a-Bration set. I was delighted to see it carry over, but perhaps haven’t used it as much as I could. But now was my opportunity.

I felt there needed to be lace to go with my floral tea set and so I dug out my pearlized doilies and Stitched Lace die

My Card

So my finished card was a Mint Macaron base with a So Saffron mat. On top of this I added a Rococo Rose lace panel that had been cut with the Stitched lace die.

I stamped a teapot and teacup in memento ink onto whisper white cardstock, cut them out with the co-ordinating dies, added the rose and leaf decorations (also in memento ink) and coloured them in with my Stampin’ Blends. All three of the challenge colours are now available in the Blends. For a little bit of extra sparkle, I used my Wink of Stella on the roses.

The pearlized doilies all have the pearl finish on one side and are plain on the back. This plain side is perfect for adding colour. I took a piece of stamping sponge and my mint macaron stamp pad and coloured the doily to match our colour scheme. This was then stuck behind the teapot on the card front and the tea cup was placed in front with dimensionals.

The sentiment “Love is a warm cup of tea” is also found in the Tea Together stamp set. I stamped this onto a So Saffron small stitched square in Rococo Rose ink and added a mint macaron scalloped square behind it an angle. This was attached to the card with dimensionals and some small pearls were added.

The finishing touch was a small stitched heart from the “Be Mine” stitched dies, which I cut in Rococo Rose cardstock. I coloured an epoxy heart with the dark Rococo Rose stampin’ blend, before placing it in the centre of the card heart. A length of Mint Macaron ribbon was added to the back, before this was finally added to the card.
